Lydia Gardener & Maria Alvarez E|xhibition
Mar 27th, 2009 Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »You are invited to join us for drinks at the private view for an exhibition featuring the work of painter Lydia Gardner and ceramicist Maria Alvarez Echenique.
Lydia’s work features explorations in pure abstraction, colour and space. Influenced by a range of artists including Hoyland, Klimt, Klee and Bacon she is interested in the different dimensions that can be achieved on the canvas, relying on spontaneous brush strokes. Her paintings often take several re-workings before reaching a picture that works. By comparison, a recent series included using figures inside digital-effect squares of colour. There will also be an opportunity to see a scaled-down print version of her major work entitled ‘Poppy’, produced for a feature film.

Maria’s ceramic work features a series of explorations of working with the human head. From themes of global warming to the works of classic writers such as Neruda and Dante, she uses the head as a way to look at consciousness and human emotion. Her other works involve more abstract explorations in clay and porcelain, often inspired by nature and the environment. Her work is unique, captivating and internationally acclaimed, with recent exhibitions in Spain and Latin America.
