The visual artists Frank Creber, Maria Alvarez and Eva Bachmann formed a collective The Hackney Utopians.
The relationship between arts and community is something that brings the three artists together. Over the years, alongside their own artistic careers, they have being working with diverse communities in various public and community art projects, gaining a deeper understanding about the relationship “community-dreams-art”.
The show features a body of work using poetical and observational approaches to visually translate the dreams & screams of communities through their own medium of painting, photography, ceramic relief and graphic collage. They invite the artist Michael Haill, who was part of their last community project.

A group of children from Hague Street Primary School together with local artists brighten play area with their designs
Tower Hamlets Homes has teamed up with Hague Street Primary School in Bethnal Green and Signs of Life from Bromley by Bow Centre to create a mural in the new play area in Potts Street on the Horwood estate, after residents asked if the area could be brightened up.
Children and teachers from the local primary school were keen to join in the project and get their ideas down on paper.
Community artists, Maria Alvarez, Neva and Eva, from Signs of Life, Bromley by Bow Centre, painted the final design on the walls of the playground.
The new play area for the children of Potts Street and Horwood estate, which opened in April 2010, was funded through Play Pathfinder and managed by Tower Hamlets Homes.
Signs of Life is the Bromley By Bow Centre’s Young People’s Public Art Social Enterprise. For more information please visit:

I’ve just came back from my trip to Vienna, full of adventures to share with you and moments which I will never forget!
I would like to thank Sabine Berchtold for inviting me to participate in the 20th anniversary of the Penguin Factory exhibition & jubile party and to make me feel totally at home in her house with her family and friends. I would also like to thank Petra & Golek for their historical trips around the city and the amazing journey to Petra’s studio, house & farm.
It was great to meet Sibel and Chemal again and to meet new great artists & makers from Austria & Switzerland. Here are a few photos of this amazing gathering of artists in the cultural mecca of Vienna.
