LATVIA PRESENTATION

Many thanks to everyone who shared my Latvian experience with me at the Centre For Better Health Gallery.

I hope you enjoyed the presentation and found it interesting & informative and that everyone who joined the workshop had a good  creative session in overglaze painting, it certainly seemed to me that everybody was very focused & enthusiastic. The assembled plates & tiles at the end of the session looked great!

It was great that the London based Latvian textile artist Astrida Berzina heard about the day and participated. Her insights into some aspects of life in Latvia were fascinating. Check out her excellent work on her website

TRIPS AROUND LATVIA

We went on several excursions around Latvia, including:  The Latvian Ethnographic Museum; Rundale Palace, with its huge collection of ceramic tiles and utensils in their historic surroundings; The Baltic Sea coast; Turaida Castle in Gauja National Park; Turaida Cave; and Sigulda town & cultural centre. Here are some pictures!

RIGA OLD CITY

I have spent a couple of weeks in Latvia participating in a ceramics symposium and visiting different Latvian regions and exploring the arts and crafts of the Baltic. I am immensely grateful to my Latvian hosts for a very warm welcome & their expert guidance, and many thanks to Grundtvig for their financial support.

On this blog I will be uploading a few pictures of the highlights of places, arts and experiences that I have encountered on my journey.

To begin with I will show you some images of  Riga,  where we were based. We had some time to explore the beautiful medieval streets and numerous Art Nouveau buildings. In the following  posts I will  firstly show highlights of excursions out of Riga, and secondly  focus on Latvian  ceramics.

I hope it gives a good impression of Riga & Latvia ceramics, I love the whole trip! Feel free to add comments.
