Ceramic student winner! Art on display: Inspired by V&A

One of my talented HCC ceramics students, Lesley Scoble, has been this year the winner of the V&A Inspired by… exhibition 2016.

Lesley commented: “I couldn’t have done it without Maria A Echenique as my tutor“

Lesley’s sculpture, Walking in the Rain was selected by Victoria and Albert Museum curators as one of 90 new works of art and craft by adult learners, inspired by pieces from the V&A’s collections.

The works on display include textiles, fashion and jewellery through to sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, painting, and digital media.

Emmajane Avery, Director of Learning and Visitor Experience at the V&A said: “The exhibition presents an excellent, high-quality snapshot of creative practice amongst adult learners.”

International Ceramics Mural: Let’s meet — Wroclaw 2016

I had the pleasure to be invited by the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw, to participate in the International Ceramic Mural 2016, as the city of Wroclaw has been proclaimed the European Capital of Culture 2016.

This project is going to become a unique artistic installation which shall be an extraordinary proof of the ceramics worldwide unity with the collaboration of renowned ateliers, and distinguished artists from all over the world including Asia, both Americas, Australia, Africa, New Zealand, and Europe.

Surface – Exhibition at Aspex Gallery

Ceramic exhibition in Aspex craft and design Gallery, Portsmouth, Uk from the 4th of March until the 19th April 2015.

Surface showcases the work of two ceramicists exploring their differing approaches to producing colourful ceramic pieces. Both artists have focused on final outcomes while considering the processes, influences and material techniques used to create their work.

The exhibition runs from March 4 until April 19, and features the work of Maria Alvarez Echenique and Martin Snelling.

Visit the gallery Wednesday-Sunday and see these beautiful examples of two very different approaches towards ceramics.

New Work! Exhibition Opening 29th May

I will be exhibiting a new set of pieces at the exhibition “Take It Or Leave It” organised by SAL (Spanish Artists in London) at the Art House Gallery, 140 Lewisham Way, London SE14-6PD.

Private view on the 29th of May from 7-9pm.
The exhibition opening dates & times are the following:
Wednesday-Sunday from 10-6pm
Friday 31st of May from 6-7pm special event with invited musician Iggy Rathmann
